Manager Advocacy Sustainability Food Companies Africa Fairfood International is a non-profit advocacy and campaign organisation, which encourages the food and beverage industry to increase the level of sustainability of its products. In this way, Fairfood contributes to the fight against hunger and poverty across the globe. Fairfood is in contact with more than 1700 companies in over 70 countries worldwide to encourage them to increase the level of sustainability of their products. The Advocacy Department The Advocacy department's main responsibility is to stimulate companies to make their brand products more sustainable. The focus is primarily on the process of sustainability, instead of the content of sustainability. Fairfood has divided the world into nine regions. Each of these has a small lobby office that actively approaches all food companies that have their international head office located in that region. The Advocacy Department of Fairfood is currently recruiting for the position of Manager Advocacy Sustainability Food Companies Africa 32 - 40 hrs Main task of this position You will be in contact with several hundred food and beverage companies at the same time and will be responsible for selling them the idea of making their products more sustainable. You focus in this on the process of sustainability and keeping the work to the company. This means you are capable of acting on an all-inclusive level, have a talent for selling and can prioritise well. To be successful in this role, you will direct a team of unpaid assistants (interns) and set up a network of relevant partner organisations. A day in the life of a Manager Advocacy The Manager Advocacy spends a lot of time contacting food and beverage companies. You will email, Skype and frequently visit food companies to make them fully aware of the message you promote: their products should become more sustainable! You will set deadlines and makes sure the company sticks to them. To be able to manage so many advocacy trajectories simultaneously, you will be assisted by a team of unpaid assistants. You will direct and coach them and delegate as many of the tasks as possible. You will work together with other organisations and exchange information with them about advocacy targets. You will also use other stakeholders to influence your advocacy targets - all to try to keep public campaigning as truly the last resort for making brand owners act more quickly. As you will cover all relations in a large geographical area, frequent travel will be required. So who are you? You are a creative sales person!You have the equivalent of a bachelor or master degree in a relevant field. You prefer to ask difficult questions rather then giving answer to them. You find new ways to encourage food companies. You have a background in the profit sector, preferably in the food and beverage industry. You are a strong, persuasive sales communicator. You are an efficient networker. You take the initiative and are result-oriented, able to set priorities and organise. You also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Obviously, you have a close affinity with Fairfood’s goals. What we offer? We offer a versatile position within a young international organisation. Due to our desire to spend our funds mainly on our core business, the salaries within Fairfood are not excessive. The salary is approximately ZAR 257,072 gross per year based on a 40-hour work week.
