Principal Mechanical/Piping Engineer The Principal Mechanical/Piping Engineer will manage the mechanical design section to ensure that designs are in accordance with project input requirements and company objectives in a timely and cost effective manner and will develop the section's competence of people, systems and procedures. Requirements: • BSc Degree in Mechanical engineering • Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa • 10 + years mechanical design experience in the mining and minerals processing industry • MUST have experience in mineral processing plants • Managerial - leadership experience • Knowledge of basic extractive metallurgy process/chemical engineering unit operations • Experience with other disciplines including plant construction, commissioning and operation • Well-developed computer skills and knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and in-house engineering programs • Will be required to mentor junior engineers Responsibilities: • Conduct reviews of mechanical and piping designs to ensure that this meets the needs of the customer and complies with regulatory authorities. • Ensure that the quality of output of the Mechanical / Piping Design Section is in line with the needs of the customer and regulatory authorities. • Provide technical and commercial direction to engineers, overview design quality, design schedules, design budgets and perform detailed review of critical aspects of projects. • Set man-hour budgets for engineering and drafting on projects and recommend engagement of consultants as required. • Assess the suitability of staff and identify the key resources for specific projects/studies. • Assess the suitability of prospective and existing employees in the Mechanical group and advise the Manager Engineering Administration of the necessity to hire and downsize. • Conduct professional development planning for engineers and lead designers. Act as mentor for graduate engineers. • Motivate and obtain commitment of design personnel to project QA / QC requirements, i.e. provide a fit for purpose design, on time and within budget. |
