Head of Forensics

Strategic Alignment
•Providing input to the development of Corporate Governance strategy
•Planning, executing, monitoring, reviewing and revising the anti-fraud strategy including researching trends and ensuring implementation of Best Operating Practice
•Proactively communicating and reporting to the Head: Group Forensic Services on plans and performance
•Aligning performance objectives for the Forensics Investigations department with Group Forensic Service objectives
•Managing relationships at the business unit level to promote and support anti-fraud activities
•Maintaining and developing Corporate Governance professional culture, values and reputation with clients, suppliers, partners and regulatory / official bodies.
Functional
•Communicating with Head: Group Forensic Services to obtain inputs for the development of the strategy.
•Managing Forensics Investigation team in consultation with other Corporate Governance role players with the objective of delivering independent and objective forensic services to stakeholders
•Establishing standards, policies and procedures that govern all the functions within Forensic investigations
•Being the project owner for projects relevant to Forensics investigations
•Monitoring the performance of the Forensics investigation team to ensure the achievement of business objectives.
•Conducting periodical fraud risk assessments.
•Providing litigation support.
•Providing effective prioritisation of cases.
•Facilitating the institution of civil action to recover loss emanating from fraudulent activities.
•Developing an Investigation capacity to manage fraud cases.
•Creating a sound and effective fraud database.
•Anticipating, resolving and service business needs and manage client relationships by, interalia, maintaining close contact with business unit managers.
•Monitoring, maintaining and reporting to the Head: Group Forensic Services in line with legal and financial compliance requirements and good governance.
•Establishing performance monitoring systems, processes and service efficiencies that constantly gauge business satisfaction.
•Ensuring continuous performance improvement throughout the Forensic investigation area through development and implementation of systems, methodologies and processes to enhance investigations.
•Managing and overseeing decentralized investigations team.
•Managing progress on reported cases.
•Implementing methodologies for detection, prevention and investigations within the company’s Group.
•Exposing breakdowns, weaknesses in controls that pose a risk to the company or any of its subsidiaries.
•Preparing regular progress reports on cases under investigation (current and new investigations).
•Investigating of all irregularities within the company’s Group and reporting such incidents to relevant authorities.
•Managing and overseeing of all matters reported to the SAPS for further investigations.
•Liaising and building a network with government agencies institutions such as the SAPS, SARS, Home Affairs as well as the Commercial Banks.
•Attending industry forums for knowledge share purposes/current trends/networking.
Staff Management
•Identification of required staffing levels and skills to deliver business objectives.
•Recruiting, selecting, developing and performance manage Forensics team members both at head office and in the regions in line with Investors in People principles, effective succession planning and staff retention objectives.
•Maintaining and developing Forensics culture, values and reputation with all staff to ensure motivation and engagement
Financial
•Preparing and managing budget in line with Corporate Governance objectives.
•Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on budgets in line with Corporate Governance objectives

Requirements:

•Matric or Grade 12 qualification
•Minimum Qualification: a B degree in law, or accounting qualification
•A CFE qualification would be advantageous.
•At least 6 years management forensic service experience in a financial service environment.
•At least 6 years in the insurance or financial services sector.
•Professional, intuitive, sensitive and well disciplined, confident, shows initiative, is approachable, has the ability to lead and to work with people
•Planning, support and guiding others by focusing them on the accomplishment of work objectives through active performance management and development
•Proactively establishing and maintaining relationships to accomplish organizational goals
•Focus is placed on the ability to be aware of own impact on others, acting with integrity and building trust
•Generating innovative solutions in work situations, applying “out of the box” thinking and challenging the status quo in dealing with work problems and opportunities.
•Understanding of SA Legal System
•Ability to understand the big picture in which the business is operating, the interplay between the different components and the impact on forensics including the understanding of commercial and financial principles
