POSITION TITLE: Accounting Manager

LOCATION: Johannesburg, South Africa

POSITION SUMMARY: This position will serve as a business leadership presence and be responsible for financial oversight in the Sub-Sahara Region. This will entail running the day-to-day finance activities including the accounting, billing, collections and analysis of the company’s Client projects as well as advising local and international business units on strategic decisions, current and future accounting practices and business operations. This position will report directly to the CFO.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Maintaining General Ledger by reconciling internal accounts; ensuring journal entries are made in a timely manner; and conducting month end closing.
• Effectively communicating with Project Managers regarding contract documents, change orders and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services-related to billing.
• Generating and distributing weekly receivables reports and weekly project report.
• Ensuring timely receipt of payments from Clients.
• Monthly VAT calculations and submission.
• Reconciling work in progress on a monthly basis.
• Preparing, analyzing and then distributing weekly Project P&L reporting; performing various project analyses including cash flow projections and profit performance analyses.
• Preparing final invoice package containing draft and final invoices for all billable projects, including all applicable backup for approval by the Project Manager.
• Researching any unbilled issues to optimize the billing possibilities for the billing period.
• Setting up new projects, making transfers of employee billable hours and/or expenses, and opening and closing time classes in company system.
• Processing payroll accurately and in a timely manner; properly recording payroll transactions in Fortna’s books and records.
• Supporting the month end close process.
• Reviewing and developing of internal control procedures.
• Cash forecasting and management activities.

Additional responsibilities include:
• Assisting management in Human Resource, Legal and IT functions.
• Performing additional duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent
• 5-10 years of relevant accounting experience
• Experience with foreign currency hedging and coverage
• General ledger experience - balance sheet reconciliations and income statement reviews
• Project accounting experience
• Experience preparing forecasts and analysis
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general business software
• Ability to work effectively in a high growth environment and a rapidly changing organization
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management and problem solving skills
• Attention to detail with the ability to multi-task
• Ability to perform essential functions of the job

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• CPA, CA or similar certification
• Six Sigma or similar training
• Crystal reporting experience

WORKING CONDITONS: Duties are performed in a typical office environment. Duties will require extended periods of sitting at a desk and viewing a computer screen. This position requires the ability to talk and hear, in person and by telephone; use of hands to handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment; and ability to reach with hands and arms. Associates are frequently required to walk and stand. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
