Projects Controller Our client intends to build, own, and operate a stand-alone potash plant near the village of Mengo, located 16 kilometres east of the Atlantic port city of Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo. Pointe-Noire, West Africa’s best deepwater port, has successfully served as the operations base for major international oil companies for the past 30 years. The Potash Plant and its adjacent brine-mining field are expected to enter the construction phase in the third quarter of 2008. The first phase of operations has been designed as a 600,000 tonne per year, single train potash plant. The plant is based on a modular design and layout that will allow for the inclusion of an additional 600,000 tonne per year unit bringing the total production to 1,200,000 tonnes per year to more fully utilize the extensive resource base available. They are putting together a team of engineering people and are looking for a Project controller. This individual will be responsible for the support of management methodology and controls for a capital intensive project (ca USD 1 Billion). The successful candidate will perform complex Project Controls activities and manage preparation of Project Controls requirements. Key Responsibilities: - Prepares or supervises the preparation of various Earned Value Reports for the project and acts as the financial advisor to the VP Projects - Monitors, and updates project budgets, schedules and forecasts for the assigned contracts; - Update budgets to reflect purchase order / contract commitments and commitment changes due to amendments or change orders; - Review invoices to ensure the assignment of actual costs to the correct cost code - Analyze, review, forecast, and report on contract / purchase order cost performance, to include the status of committed costs against approved budgets - Assist in the development of options for corrective action, to include performing an analysis upon various alternatives and presenting recommendations to contract and project management - Attend contract and project management meetings, and be prepared to discuss issues and answer questions relevant to contract / project costs, commitments, and forecasts - Prepare written, tabular, and graphic reports that communicate contract / project cost and progress status periodically - Work in concert with VP Projects, accounting personnel and EPCM contractor to ensure cost and schedule integration Qualifications: - Prefer a Bachelors technical degree or non-technical Bachelors degree with business and computer software courses - Relevant Engineering, Construction, or Project Controls experience of large industrial / construction projects and contracts; - Respective experience with schedule and productivity analysis - An overall knowledge of EPC(M) contracts It is hoped that candidates will have the following: - trend analysis & metrics presentation techniques, schedule risk analysis, WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) system development, competency in cost analysis and forecasting methods, and risk and contingency management. - Strong Working knowledge of Project Control functions and processes including planning/scheduling, cost estimating, cost control, change management, financial, and project accounting processes and systems. - Proficient PC skills and Project Controls SW If you have the suitable experience with strong organizational and planning skills, are able to take initiative and work well in a team, this could be the job for you. Strong communication skills are key, and you must be able to work accurately, follow schedules/timelines and handle multiple priorities.
