JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: PRODUCER ORGANIZATION SPECIALIST, ESSENTIAL OILS PROJECT
LOCATION: MELMOTH AREA, KWAZULU NATAL

Non-profit organization starting 2-year project to develop the production and processing of essential oils amongst traditional farmers in KwaZulu Natal Province seeks agent specialized in strengthening producer organizations for part-time employment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
The producer organization specialist will organize and develop traditional farmers into viable groups of essential oils producers capable of undertaking production and marketing activities and managing the revenues generated from these activities. The producer organization specialist reports directly to the Project Director. Major tasks will include:
• Registering participating groups as cooperatives;
• Establishing cooperative governance and management systems;
• Training groups in the use of the governance and management systems put in place;
• Assisting groups to develop business plans;
• Working closely with the project extension agents to produce essential oils in the most efficient and effective manner possible; and,
• Maintaining production and revenue records based on data collected by field staff.

The producer organization specialist will also participate in producer group identification and complete other tasks as assigned by the Project Director.

Position Requirements
1. Education: A diploma in business administration.
2. Work Experience: Minimum three years experience in the successful organization of traditional farmers.
3. Computer literacy, including Word and Excel.
4. Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
5. A valid driver’s license qualifying the holder to operate both motorbikes and 4-wheel drive vehicles.

Half-time monthly salary will be approximately R 2,000-4,000 depending on experience.
