Retail Life Actuary: Corporate/Projects The role The position offers a unique opportunity to be an integral part in building an actuarial centre of excellence within business. This is not a traditional corporate actuarial role but offers the opportunity to be much closer aligned with business by contributing to strategic and business decisions. In addition, a significant portion of the work will be of a project nature and work will therefore be varied offering new challenges and learning opportunities. You would be required so stay abreast of matters such as SA Solvency Assessment and Monitoring, changes to the SA Tax regime and other matters impacting on life insurers in South Africa. You would also be required to do Prophet modelling. However, you would be expected to interpret the results, challenge business where necessary and ensure that your results inform business decisions. Close alignment with management is therefore required. The position offers an excellent opportunity to develop new skills building on your corporate actuarial experience from where you can develop into a business role or a specialised corporate actuarial role. Key output As this is a new team, the scope of the team is expected to grow in future. At present the key outputs include: Capital management; " particularly at a product and distribution channel level, allocating economic capital and calculating risk adjusted return on capital Project expected future economic capital requirements Funding management and participation in transfer pricing discussions Project expected future funding requirements Model office projections for Momentum Retail Expense investigations and analysis of the value chain Engage with FAS (Group) Corporate Actuarial on various matters Identify opportunities to improve return on equity, engaging FAS Capital Management and FAS Corporate Actuarial where necessary Profit estimation, budgeting and measurement Qualifications and skills The successful candidate will be a qualified actuary with at least three years post-qualification experience (or other commensurate experience). Relevant corporate actuarial experience will be an advantage. In addition, a good understanding of Prophet programming is required. Knowledge of Prophet Workspaces would be an advantage. The successful candidate would be required to be detail oriented with strong investigative and problem solving skills. The candidate should be a self-starter with the ability to transfer skills and develop junior team members. Good communication skills (both written and verbal) are required as regular communication with management and non-actuarial audiences will be necessary. |
