Electronic / Electro-optical Engineer Electronic / Electro-optical Engineer Introduction: My client based in the East of Pretoria has a vacancy for an Electronic / Electro-optical Engineer who is able to contribute to the Company’s success in their Sensor Science and Technology Group through its people and process excellence. The Sensor Science and Technology group focuses on R&D in sensing, solid-state actuation and electro-optic technologies and applications. The group has extensive expertise in the development of specialised inspection and imaging systems including computer-based optical measurement systems, ultraviolet and infrared inspection systems and related research in the field of spectral imaging. Within this field, research is conducted in the area of electro-optic sensing and imaging that is aimed at optical gas leak detection systems, non-destructive testing methods and multi-spectral imaging technology for aerial inspection on high-voltage equipment. In addition, contract R&D projects are undertaken for industrial clients. Successful applicants will be expected to conduct (R&D) projects in these areas. Requirements: • A B.Eng degree in electronic engineering with physics as a course/subject and at least five to ten years’ experience in a similar environment. • Knowledge and experience in most of the following: o Good electronic design including best practice on PCB designs, digital signal processing, VHDL programming (preferably Altera), system integration (hardware and software), image processing and measurement techniques and embedded software development (C++/Assembler) on NIOS/PIC. o Radiometry and electro-optical design principles. • A proven ability to work independently and within a research team environment. • Technical leadership abilities. • Knowledge of electro-optical systems, their optics, filters, detectors and radiometric aspects would be preferred. Key Responsibilities: • Design and development of digital electronic hardware. • Specific focus on VHDL programming of FPGAs in the Altera environment. • Perform electro-optic product development and system integration. • Digital image processing and embedded software development. • Assist in developing hardware and software system requirements and specifications. • Conduct literature studies for new fields of application. • Do project planning and management of project teams. • Mentor under-graduate students. • Work in a multidisciplinary environment with clients, engineers, scientist, project managers and technicians.
