Closing date Friday 24 February 2011 Introduction An international company in the defence industry are looking to employ a Systems Engineer. Qualifications • B Eng. Electronic/Physics/Mechanical or equivalent Specific experience required • More than 8 years technical experience in a specific engineering discipline (mechanical, optical, electronics) and exposure to multi disciplinary engineering development environment; PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE MORE THAN 8 YEARS APPLICABLE EXPERIENCE. If your CV does not comply, it will not be considered or commented on. • At least 8 years relevant experience in Systems Engineering for new product development (Experience in employing the systems engineering principles through the full systems life cycle, including all phases from requirements analysis to phase out of commercial/military products); • Experience in technical risk management in a product development environment is required; • Knowledge of the development of laser/sensor/surveillance products (or equivalent electro-optical systems) comprising complex mechanical/optical/electronic systems will be an advantage, within the defense/aviation industry. Specific competencies required: • Strong leadership skills, sound analytical capabilities, customer focus and the ability to interact with clients, an understanding of total quality management, strong team player, continuous learning, Systems Thinking, Holistic Lifecycle view, Systems Engineering Management. Key duties: • Transfer customer and company needs into specific system and/or product requirements; • Responsible for the System Design process (based on INCOSE principles) with the support of an engineering team. • Plan the system development process using system engineering management plans and take Technical Management lead during the development phase and formal design reviews; • Generate system- and sub-system specifications with allocation of functional, performance, interface, testability, availability, safety, maintainability, produce-ability and workmanship requirements; • Conceptualise performance verification methods and conduct system verification and validation to ensure that the product/system requirements are fulfilled; • Liaise with customers (internal and external) on all technical aspects of the products and provide technical support when required.
