Research and Development manager Senior Research and Development Manager Johannesburg, South Africa ZAR 456K (UK £29,000 pa) Our client is the UK subsidiary of a large US organisation. A family owned business with an annual turnover of $2.6 billion. Specialising in the manufacturing of luxury baked goods, toppings and filings. Following the company’s unprecedented growth in the UK and Ireland, the company are looking to recruit skilled and experienced professionals. The ideal candidate will have a real passion for food and wish to share in the company’s continued success throughout the retail and food service. Ideally you would be looking to relocate from the UK to Johannesburg, South Africa. The role: •Keep abreast of new development in the company’s industry more specifically with respect to freezing of bakery and non dairy products. •To plan and recommend staffing levels and mange the associates in your division. •Develop and implement Research and Development programmes, plan for product development. •Drive, manage and oversee all divisional research and development projects and programmes related to cost reduction, raw material substitution, process improvements, line extensions, new product process development, the development of standard production methods and recipes for each new product and to ensure that training on production processes of newly developed products is in place. •Lead or to be actively involved in all Product Life Cycle projects and Stagegate projects. •Develop processes that will reduce waste by, amongst other, recycling waste products. •Drive continuous research on cost and recipe improvement. •Actively involved with all HACCP and ISO 9001/2000 programmes. •Ensure adequate resources (people, budgets, equipments, etc.) are available for divisional initiatives and monitor the accomplishments of project milestones and adherence to timelines, budgets and other performance standards. To implement corrective actions when necessary. •Review and analyze new project requests, assigning resources and prioritizing according to business needs. •Develop, implement and communicate short and mid term business plans for the division, consistent with the R&D Division’s and Company’s business objectives and strategies. TO ensure divisional associates understand these plans, the link with company business strategies, and the role of each associate in accomplishing these plans. •Lead or be actively involved in the commercialization of all products developed by your division. •Guide, coach/mentor and develop divisional associates, ensuring they have the resources and capabilities or effectively accomplish their assignments. •Conduct briefings and technical meetings with internal and external customers. The Person •BSC in Food science •Experience in Research and development preferably in a senior role |
