Technical Manager China Joint Venture Job Opportunity Definition and Nature of Work The objective is to have a representative of E.M.P based in China to protect the interests of E.M.P and ensure confidentiality of E.M.P’s intellectual property and know how. It would not be appropriate to simply have a watchdog based at the factory but the position must be both functional and senior enough to perform the above objective without raising too much suspicion. Whilst the person would report to the managing director on routine day to day matters he/she must have a direct line to E.M.P management in South Africa. The one position that would allow the person to fulfil these functions would be as the technical/quality manager. Quality control must be completely independent and not report to any production authority or manager who directly or indirectly controls production/production personnel. The position of technical/Quality manager has to be independent and reporting to E.M.P in South Africa would be logical and acceptable. Whilst the job function is technical manager and quality control manager, the title should be technical manager which implies sufficient seniority to function independently and include responsibilities in addition to quality control. Technical Manager Job Description •Look after and safeguard the interests, intellectual property and know how of E.M.P •Have complete authority and control of all quality control of both raw materials and finished/packed product and report directly to E.M.P South Africa in this regard. • Be responsible for procurement of raw materials • Have confidential control of formulations •Corrective action and approval of adjustment to off-specification blends •Source alternative raw materials in case of shortages and/or non-availability of current raw materials with approval from E.M.P South Africa. •Source more cost effective raw materials in consultation with E.M.P South Africa •Propose improvement to product performance for approval from E.M.P South Africa. •Advise production department on storage handling and production procedures of raw materials and finished products to ensure that quality is maintained •Formulate quality control procedures and specifications •Responsible for compliance with local filling/capacity regulations •Compilation of material safety data sheets (MSDs) for all products •Provide input for compilation of technical data sheets for all products •Consult with sales personnel on market requirements to keep up with new automotive technology and upgrade existing products and/or develop new products in consultation with and approval from E.M.P South Africa • Responsible for and control of laboratory staff and equipment and all functions for which this department is responsible •Provide technical advice, training and assistance to sales and production departments •Ensure that all products, raw materials and packaging are in compliance with local regulations •Act as communication link between J.V Company and E.M.P South Africa on all technical and production issues. Technical Manager Requirements 1.Qualification: •Degree/ Diploma in chemistry or chemical engineering or a related subject. •Alternatively qualifies by experience and successful track record in a related industry and job function 2.Experience: •10 years experience in a related industry in quality control/laboratory experience and supervision and product development in a production environment 3.Automotive/Lubrication Knowledge: •A knowledge of and experience in automotive engine and lubrication technology would be a distinct advantage. Alternatively have mechanical/engineering experience and ability, with the ability and desire to become educated in this field as quickly as possible. 4.Personal/character: •Must be prepared and able to operate independently and effectively in unfamiliar surroundings and have the ability to win people over in spite of cultural differences and communication difficulties due to a different language. •Preferably single male or married with no children and spouse prepares to relocate with him. •Must understand that this is a permanent long term position and that a give it a try to see how it goes attitude is unacceptable. |
