IT Systems Administrator Administrator: Systems Job Title : Administrator: Systems Reports To : Administrator: Senior Systems PURPOSE OF JOB To ensure availability and stability of region’s IT systems. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Process Management  Installs, configures and supports the organisation’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet system, and maintains network hardware and software.  Monitors the network to ensure availability to all system users and performs necessary maintenance to support network availability.  Plans, implements and coordinates network security measures to protect data, software and hardware.  Diagnoses hardware and software problems and replaces defective components when required.  Performs data backups and disaster recovery operations.  Maintains and administers computer networks and environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software and all configurations.  Monitors the performance of networks and systems, and coordinates network access and usage.  Performs routine network start-up and shutdown procedures, and maintains control records.  Designs, configures and tests computer hardware, networking software and operating system software.  Recommends improvements to systems and network configurations, and determines hardware or software requirements related to such changes.  Confers with network users on solving existing system problems.  Monitors network performance to determine whether adjustments are required and to determine where adjustments will be required in future. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  Has no supervisory responsibility. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
